Stop Motion, The Beginning

Today was the first class of stop motion.

We discussed stop animation films that we have watched and what comes to mind is all of the Wallace and Gromit Movies, Paranorman, Chicken Run, Coraline, Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer, Robot Chicken. All very good movies in my opinion.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back had small sequences of stop animations including The AT-AT walkers and the Tauntaun.

Prior to today I have had a little experience with stop animation, way back in the day I made a small film called Shipwrecked which consisted of both stop animation and live movement. The project took 2 months to complete. I had a small camera with a stop animation setting built into it and made the stop animation scene by scene. I edited all of it on the old version of Imovie (2007 I believe)

Luckily for me, the project that is coming up, I have been planning with my workmate Thomas to create a 2.5D project. The same project that I discusses In my proposal for BSA106.
The idea will be based on Terry Gilliams work (Cut out images of magazine) but will work like the old Doom games. The idea has been in discussion for a few weeks. Ill discuss the project more in later blogs when the idea has been well and truly and developed. Also we need to talk to Traci about somethings in our animation as some things might not work in the ciriculum because our project is quite different to normal animation.

Group projects in the past have been, well unfair, in the past (eg. me being the one putting things together and presenting without any help.)
But I fully believe that Thomas and I will work hard on this project equally, I have seen Thomas work on projects will full intentions of getting them refined and completed, and that is good enough evidence for me.

We were shown some examples of stop motion, The Shins were one of them. They had some really amazing stopmotion which would of taken ages to make, like holy moly. It's quite advanced stuff.

We were also shown Epic Rap Battles of History Thor vs Zeus, which I've seen before. I love ERB and this rap battle is amazing, but this unique stop animation rap battle just makes it. wonderful stuff. We watched the behind the scenes of this video too. it was two completely different groups working together to make something big. Really cool.

The Maker was a cool short film, its style is creepy but its story is simple, and actually kind of cool. I think the use of human teeth really made it odd.

The Bear and the Hare was presented to us, and Its concept of using 2D and 3D is similar to what me and Thomas are going to work on, although we are going to be working on a smaller scale and have little to no sets. And well be using magazine cutouts instead of a bunch of animated drawings.
