Iron Man 3
Thor: The Dark World
Ant Man

Doctor Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2

Movies That I watched in the break:

Captain America: Winter Soldier
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Captain America: Civil War
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame

https://www.amazon.com/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-WINTER-SOLDIER-ORIGINAL/dp/B00N9LNCNO
This film I think is one of the best in the entire series, My favourite Marvel film was The First Captain America film, and it still is, But this one was probably the same if not better. The tension of character and all the backstabbing is really intriguing.

https://www.amazon.com/Avengers-Ultron-Movie-Poster-22X34/dp/B00VU1E2UW
I believe this film is highly underrated, It has some solid comedy, cool action sequences and has a solid plot. It also particularly has some good moments from Hawkeye.

https://www.amazon.com/CAPTAIN-AMERICA-CIVIL-POSTER-ORIGINAL/dp/B00NS545Q4
Another good movie, the airport battle sequence is very entertaining and all of the characters fighting each other brings in some cool character development. SPOILER ALERT, The real villain of this movie actually wins, even though they lose, their plan succeeded flawlessly.

https://www.amazon.com/Avengers-Infinity-POSTER-Sci-fi-Action/dp/B07BJ2MMX2
Infinity war was a fun movie, SPOILER ALERT Its ending was one of the saddest and the fact that Thano's basically wins the war really makes this movie great, it really fights against the cliche super hero movie ending.

https://www.marvel.com/articles/movies/marvel-studios-reveals-avengers-endgame-poster
The Longest movie of them all, Endgame was a rollercoaster of emotions. SPOILER ALERT. Most of the secondary superheroes actually get a lot of screen time and the all of the heroes are super depressed from infinity war, which is a realistic take on a super hero movie. So many things happened and it rounded of the entire saga pretty well.

Classical Hollywood & Animation Golden Age

Classical Hollywood
a period of time between the 1920s to the late 1950s, considered the golden age of Hollywood.
The golden age refers to the production values, style and distribution of films made under the Hollywood Studio System.

The Big 5 Studios
Metro Goldwyn Mayer
Paramount Pictures
Warner Bros. Pictures
RKO Radio Pictures
20th Century FOX

The Little 3 Studios
Universal Studios
Columbia
United Artists

The Studio System
The Studio System was a system that enabled the biggest studios in Hollywood to have total control of the movie they made and how they would be distributed. This is known as vertical integration, because the studio controlled the supply chain from production to exhibition.

The Motion Picture Producers and Distribution Association (MPPDA)
In 1922, Paramount and the other 4 major studios brought together their power within the United States and internationally through the establishment of a trade body. This was made to:

  • Neutralise the increasing moral panic over the disreputable nature of the movies with a voluntary production code.
  • Encourage co-operation between the major studios, effectively barring entry to new competitors and restricting international access to the huge and profitable US market.
  • Work with the US states Department to lobby overseas governments who threatened to introduce restrictions on Hollywood imports.

Block Booking
Block Booking was an important part of the studio system, A studio would sell a years worth of films to theaters as a unit. These unit would include only one attractive, A-budget movie that the theaters really wanted and the rest of the rest of the world would be a mix of A-budget pictures of dubious quality and lower budgeted B-movies.
The Big 5 studios had controlling stakes in their own theaters chains, which were exempt from block booking.
In 1948, the verdict in the antitrust case United States vs. Paramount Pictures, inc the decision outlawed the practice of block booking and forced the studios to sell their their theater chains.

The Hays Code

The Star System
The studios were also infamous for 'owning' their stars. This system meant that the stars were employees of the studios that they were working for and were bound to them in contracts.
The studio would build an image around the star.
The contract usually had morality clauses, in the hop that it would keep the actors from using drugs, commuting adultery and other indiscretions that could ruin their image.
This would result in the actors feeling 'owned' by the studios and were frustrated that they did not have the ability to choose their own work. The studios sometimes 'lent' out their stars to other studios.

Techniques common to classic Hollywood Films
Narrative Structure
Continuity Editing
Establishing Shot
Shot/Reverse Shot
180 Degree Rule
30 Degree Rule
Match on Action
Eye-line Match

Final Essay and Markings

This is the Final Essay in its entirety.
Overall I got a 68% mark on it, which is around a B grade.
The reason why I got a B grade was mainly my grammar and structure. I was told that I do have good ideas but the way I wrote them down lost the impact I wanted. Also my Citation needs worked on. I feel like I also need more proof reading, I did use a proof reading cite for this but it seems as though it only really fixes grammar.
I should be able to learn from this, I am getting there.

Head turn Progression updated

Here I have developed the head turn even more, still not complete but I am heading in the right direction. The bold lines still need to be fixed.

You vs Wild

https://gcs.thesouthafrican.com/2019/04/830e28b5-you-vs-wild-750x375.jpg

This piece of entertainment is a unique one because not only is a TV show, but it is an interactive TV show. Like a Telltale Games experience but with only two options. And there is multiple chances of failing the show. The show is 8 episodes long, and some of the episode are two-parters. However your progress doesn't carry over, and you are limited to only two choices in each scenario.
My favorite episode is the 8th episode because you get to explore a 'haunted' mine shaft. which gives of some Until Dawn Vibes. (A play station exclusive Horror game).
There is also an option in one of the episode where you can eat bear poo nuts. Yep. You can make Bear Grylls eat Bear Poo Nuts. I'm not kidding I swear. I wouldn't say this show is the best thing on Netfix but it is fun to play with friends. And you could say anything you want about Bear Grylls, but he does make this show unique.

The Room

On Sunday, me and a group of classmates sat down and watch the infamous movie, The Room. Prior to watching this I knew of the films existence. I expected hilariously bad. and I definitely got that, but it was much worse that I could possible imagine. Its so bad its good. So basically the main plot of this film is that Lisa, the antagonist of this film is going to dump her husband to be Johnny because she loves his best friend Mark. Simple enough plot but it so much more than that. There is at least 30 minutes of bad sex scene montages, which are mostly repeats of the same shot. There is a random drug deal gone wrong, a huge amount of contradicting arguments and actions. (Example: Mark not wanting to make out with Lisa, Continues to make out with Lisa.) The dialogue and the way it is presented is (tragically) beautiful. The Room is a much watch because of how bad it is.

Black Dynamite

https://www.redbubble.com/people/artsims/works/22945513-black-dynamite-1?p=poster
Black Dynamite, made in 2009 and directed by Scott Sanders is one of those comedic 'Purposely Bad' movies, and a really good one too. This movie is pretty funny. The story follows Black Dynamite, a former CIA / Vietnam Veteran who seeks vengeance for his brother, Jimmy's death, after the brother was murdered by drug dealing gangsters. This Movie is non stop action and jokes, it really pokes jabs at the old 80's action movie genre. Black Dynamite was rated so highly that it even got its own TV show of the same name which lasted for two seasons on Adult Swim.

District 9 - A Rewatch

https://www.amazon.com/DISTRICT-MOVIE-POSTER-ORIGINAL-BLOMKAMP/dp/B008NNRYAU

I rewatched the Movie district 9 the other day. As previously stated, District 9 is one of my top 10 movies. Re-watching this movie gave me a lot of refreshers on what happened in the movie and it is as good as I remember. The way this film is produced, both as a documentary and an action movie. Is astounding. The visual effects are superb, and the soundtrack is also quite unique. Sharlito Copley is a great actor in this. The Development of character is very well done in this film too. Highly recommend this movie to anyone.

Drawing A Model Posing

This lesson in drawing, we drew a live model on the digital pads. All sketches were about 5 minutes each. The last two drawings were altered with liquify to get the proportions right. They are placed next to the original sketches to show the difference.

Mural

This lesson we were instructed to male large murals. Me, Ben and Vinnie grouped together, and made a Mural. Ben Created the monotone mountains on the left. I did the alien in the middle using a variety of red, yellows and browns, and Vinnie created the alien landscape on the right. We took longer than all the class to finish but are mural looks quite impressive. The whole balance of colour is really cool looking.

Finding Shapes In film Continued, Tone and Colour edition

Finding Tone
Tone Shades
What the lighting means
Altered lighting from one of my favourite films, instead of a dark im going to kill you reveal, we have got an ominous mysterious reveal.
These were more activities from Pixar in a box, to advance our learning in Storyboard pro, However I couldn't use it today so I used Photoshop instead.

Retro Futurism Project, Clock

Final Clock Featuring Green

Final Clock
The Final Clock is going to be the printed out clock, I have added some more Saturation, a broke glass effect and increased the glass shading since my last blog. The one with the green background was an experiment with using a triad colour scheme but I think it takes away from the center of the image. I even checked to see if my 'dots', were in the right place and they were.
See my designing progress here:

Surrealist Animation

Destino (1946 -1999)
Salvador Dali signed a contract with Walt Disney to make a short animate film entitled Destino
Production of this film was brought to a halt because of financial difficulties and only 17 seconds of test animation was completed.
In 1999 while working on Fantasia 2000, Walt Disney's nephew Roy E Disney unearthed the project and decided to have it completed.

Dreams of Dali: 360 Degree Video (2016)
This Animation was based of the painting Archaeological Reminiscence of millet's Angelus (1935)
The Animation was made for the Salvador Dali Museum, Inc, in St Petersburg, Florida, USA
made by Goodby Sliverstien and Partners, San Francisco, CA

Terry Gilliam (And Monty Python's Flying Circus) (1969-74)
Monty python was known for it's surrealist, absurd comic sketches during its run.
Gilliam had complete creative control over the animated interstitials
Sketches created using "table top cut-out animation" technique which consisted of a combination of original and stock images cut from paper and collaged together.

Walerian Borowcyzk
Polish Film Maker and animator
Using the characters from his 1962 short film The concert of Mr and Mrs Kabal, Boriwcyck made Mr and Mrs Kabal's Theater in 1967
Features minimal scratchy drawings, animated photo's and deconstructed live action.

Fantastic Planet (1973)
Directed by Rene Laloux. Laloux taught painting at a psychiatric clinic in the 1950's and introduced the patients to shadow puppetry and film. These short films led to meeting French illustrator Roland Topor to whom he collaborated on three films.

Jan Svankmajer
Czech Surrealist Filmmaker. His first film, Leonardo's Diary, was shown at cannes in 1974 and denounced by a Czech film Critic in the communist press as a strange piece of fantasy without socialist content.
He experienced waves of censorship and at one point was banned from film making for eight years.
Jabberwocky (1971)
Dimensions of Dialogue (1982)
Alice and Wonderland (1988)
Food (1992)
Faust (1994)

Full Breackdown of Jan Svankmajer
http://cinemajam.com/mag/features/jan-svankmajer

Jan Svanksmajers work is odd, if you went into watching these films for only a light viewing, you wouldn't understand what they were talking about. But however I can see in these films that there is a deeper meaning. I thought it was intriguing. Watching Jabberwocky was a good example of this. At a glance its an absolute mess, but once you can really look at this you can see the films about growing up, perhaps something about disobedience to adult figures from a kids perspective.

Tick Tock, its a Clock Design

Basic Plan concepts.
Plan of shapes and colours.
Final Concept of the clock, The Porthole window into space.
In this lesson, we were told to design our clocks for our main project First I drew up 4 designs, originally I wanted to do just a planet. But after a bit of thinking, I realise that that would be too simple of a design, so I went with the porthole idea. I designed out the main shapes first and then went over the shapes with the spray-paint tool to make the cloudy/Grainy texture. As of writing this blog, I haven't printed out the clock yet. But hopefully before the end of next week I will have it printed, cut out  and ready to go.

Head Turn Progression

Today's Lesson was Progression in the head turn animation, The First Video shows a full shape rough of what i kinda want to see in the final product and the second one is a cleaner version. The second one will not be my final.

Pendulums and Face Turns

Today's Class we finished a tutorial on motion, We used a pendulum swing as our example to play with the speed of the swing. Then afterward we started on our next big project. At the moment we have started to make the head turn. right now I have made an outline of the head. But later I plan to place a hood over top on it. but I wanted to get the motion just right first. The video below shows what I have so far.
